Dust is a whisper across time—a mundane dance of dead skin cells, dirt particles, and microscopic fibers collecting in the corner, yet also a mechanism of geologic and cosmic time that extends beyond the scope of humanity. Encompassing a range of materials and approaches, from paintings and works on paper to found photographs and readymade sculptures, these four artists explore personal and collective memory, examining the relationship between the past, present, and potential futures.

When I inherited my parents’ 2008 Hyundai Tucson four years ago, I also inherited the sun-damaged foam bumblebee charm that hangs from the rearview mirror. As I began using the vehicle, I was protective of this. I would carefully maneuver the car’s sun shield to not disturb this little brittle guardian of sorts, but signs of use were soon evident as I observed one of its baby blue wings break off. I was initially disappointed by this irreversible scar but tucked the fragment in the coin purse my mother used to use, where I’ve come to keep some of these mementos.

The other wing stayed intact up until the week of this show, and I found a way for the two to be together again.
